Defining Network Accessories

A computer network is basically a telecommunications network that is used so that computers can exchange data with each other. The most popular and largest computer network is the Internet. While connecting a computer network, there are a variety of accessories that are needed. From adapters to routers and switches, every part of the networking hardware has a specific role to play.

There are even more accessories that are used to make life simpler. For example cable management accessories help to manage the scores of cables that are used to create computer networks. From connecting a network to managing the process, every network accessory that you can think of is available right here.

Cable Ties

A cable tie is known by many names. Whether you call it a cable tie, tie-wrap, hose tie, zap-strap or zip tie, in essence, it is a fastener that is used to hold things together. In general, it is used for holding electrical cables and wires together is safe and secure manner. For the purpose that they serve, cable ties are very cost-effective and easy to use. Depending on the application requirements, cable ties come in a variety of colors and dimensions. You can even get stainless steel cable ties that are meant for outdoor use where it would offer a higher level of protection from the elements.

Cable ties are one of the most basic computer network accessories as they help organize wiring systems. They do this by grouping cables or wires together. General cable ties that are created for regular application are made from 6.6 nylon grade. Depending on the brand and material of cable ties, generic ones are built resistant to oil, grease, and chemical based products. They may also be resistant to flammability (will be mentioned by manufacturer). Most of these cable ties can be adjusted by hand, depending on the dimensions and materials.

The regular cable ties that used for networking purposes are made of nylon and have a tape section with upraised edges. These edges or teeth work with the pawl at the head of the tie to form a lasso-like structure. It is a one-way system in that once the tape end is pulled, the cable tie tightens and does not become loose again. Some cable wraps have a tab that can be used to loosen and tighten the wrap, depending on your needs.

Cable Clips

Like cable ties, cable clips are also used to manage wires and cables by securing them tightly in place. However, cable ties are a free standing structure while cable clips secure the cables by attaching to a surface like a ceiling, wall or floor. These simple devices are highly effective. A basic cable clip consists of a small opening or loop for holding the cables. The other end of the plastic clip has a hole in it. The plastic bit with the hole in it can be nailed down on any desirable surface. This ensures that the cable clip holds the wires and cables, and is fit snugly to the wall or floor.

Depending on your needs, you will find cable clips in different sizes and colors so you can color code your network wires or bundle them all up together with a single big cable clip. In a computer network, there are a multitude of components that need to be connected to each other. Components like computers, sound systems, smaller devices, printers, and more form a part of single computer network, and are generally located in a small space. Each of these components have a set of wires or cables that are used to connect to each other. Cable clips are incredibly useful when it comes to ensuring that these multiple cables do not get tangled or mixed up.

Outlet Surge Protectors

A surge protector is a device that is used to protect other electrical devices in a network from spikes in voltage. An outlet surge protector is used to ensure that in the event of a voltage spike, the excess electricity is not pumped into other devices. If this happens, the other devices like the computer or printer will malfunction and may even short-circuit. An outlet surge protector ensures that the voltage spike is diverted straight to the ground or simply blocks the spike from entering other systems.

There are many different types of surge protectors that you can use in conjunction with your network system. Some of them include a single outlet, while others allow you to plug in multiple cables into one outlet of power. A network system has many components and a multi-pin outlet surge protector is an indispensable networking accessory.

Switches

A desktop switch is also known as a KVM switch. Such a networking accessory allows you to control a number of computers in your network from one or more video monitors, mouse or keyboards. Network switches can also be used in conjunction with your networking system. This switching hub is a computer networking device with multiple ports that allows a user to manually interconnect various devices on a single computer network.

Depending on the type and brand of switch you buy, some switches offer firewall services, network intrusion detection as well as performance analysis and more. These modules can be plugged into the switch ports or may be present in the combined modules. Smaller desktop and networking switches may have just a couple of portals. Depending on your needs, you can get desktop switches with 8 or more portals for your networking needs.
