Cmple Home Speakers For In-Wall Or In-Ceiling Installation

You often don’t notice the most impressive aspect of a home theater until after you’ve settled in to watch a movie: the in-ceiling or in-wall speakers that create an amazing surround-sound experience.

5.25 Surround Sound

From your seat they may look no different than the cheap loudspeakers used in school or hospital hallways, since you can only see the grills and not the speakers. Once you’ve been blown away by a film’s soundtrack and special audio effects or the concert-hall sound of a live DVD performance, though, you can tell those are no ordinary speakers hidden in the wall or ceiling.
Those are the in-wall and in-ceiling speakers that we sell at Cmple. They are meticulously designed for the highest-quality sound possible, with materials selected to deliver exceptional highs, mids and lows. And even though all of our speakers are extremely reasonably priced, they include many features that are normally seen only on brand name speakers costing hundreds of dollars.

Cmple’s Approach to Speaker Design

We don’t believe in cutting corners, whether we’re manufacturing superior Ethernet and HDMI cables, or great home theater components like our surround-sound speakers. When you look at our low prices, way under $100 per pair (we also carry a terrific central speaker with two woofers for less than $50), you’d expect to see bare-bones units. You’ll be surprised to learn how much you get for your money.

To be clear, these aren’t “loudspeakers.” All of our speakers are two-way models with woofers and tweeters; you really don’t need three-way speakers as long as the crossover is tuned properly, and our 12dB slope crossover provides optimal frequency matching between the woofer and tweeter. What’s more important is the material used to construct the woofer and tweeter.

Surround Sound 2-Way In-WallIn-Ceiling Kevlar Speakers

Let’s start with the woofers. Most of our speakers have Kevlar cone woofers which range between 5.25 and 6.5 inches, and we’ve chosen Kevlar because it’s the perfect material to reproduce lows and mids. It’s rigid and won’t “warp” as it moves, so it reproduces the audio accurately. Kevlar is also very lightweight, so it provides the fast movement required for detailed and accurate sound reproduction. The Kevlar is woven, so there’s a continuous pattern of frequency dispersion, with fewer sound lags and less “smearing.” And we use oversized magnets in the woofers to increase sensitivity and add power to the lows. The end result is audio that is crisp, clear and faithful, particularly when it comes to the always-touchy highs and midranges.

Most of our Cmple home speakers feature a one-inch silk dome, titanium dome or Mylar dome tweeter. All three materials provide natural-sounding highs with impressive, crisp quality, and our tweeters are designed for optimal linear frequency response and omnidirectional sound distribution. We’re also proud to be able to offer several features you’ll be hard-pressed to find on competitive speakers anywhere near this price range. Most of our tweeters are designed with swivel technology so they can be turned 35° to either side to customize sound delivery to your preferred listening location. They also have multi-position switches to control the sound of the tweeter, allowing you to choose +/- 2dB for high and lower frequencies.

Quite simply, we don’t design our Cmple in-wall and in-ceiling speakers to be “good.” We design them to be competitive with – or better than – high-end models with big brand names you’d immediately recognize. And we believe ours can hold their own against any of theirs.

The Little Things Count, Too

When you buy an HDTV, you’re likely to think about specs like 4K resolution and contrast ratio before you consider the smaller details. And when buying speakers, you’ll consider the details of the woofers and tweeters first. But there’s a lot more that goes into our Cmple home speakers.

5.25 Surround Sound 2-Way In-WallIn-Ceiling Kevlar Speakers (Pair) - Rectangular

Since we mentioned specs, most of these speakers can handle a maximum power output of 150 watts, with a frequency response of 50-20,000 Hz. For this section we’re more focused on the impeccable construction of our home speakers, however, because we take great care when building them.

The woofers are housed in a rigid steel basket and the entire speaker assembly is attached to the frame with secure self-gripping clamps, both of which minimize vibrations that can affect sound quality. Speaking of the frame, it’s made from UV-coated ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) which is 30 times more durable than plastic and ideal for sound deadening. The cones have butyl rubber surrounds which boost the lows and won’t degrade like foam and the grills are made from weather-resistant aluminum, so all of our Cmple home speakers are suitable to be used in areas like bathrooms where there’s a lot of moisture in the air. They can even be used outdoors, as long as the speakers won’t be directly hit by rain or water. The frames and grilles can be painted in the color of your choice, so they’ll match any room. Finally, the push-type terminal connectors are gold-plated to prevent corrosion, and easily accept speaker wires with 100% contact at all times.

If there’s any detail on the Cmple speakers we haven’t thought of and addressed, please let us know. We can’t think of any.

Flexible and Easy to Install

These Cmple home speakers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Rectangular 11 x 7.5 inch and 12 x 8.5 inch models (plus the center speaker, which is 20.5 x 8.5 inches) and both 8” and 9” round speakers are available to fit your specific needs. And they can all be used for either in-wall or in-ceiling installation.

You may prefer to have a professional install these speakers since they’ll require cutting into your walls or ceiling. For those who prefer to do it themselves, though, we’ve made it easy with specific instructions, cutout templates, and the previously-mentioned color-coded and easy-connect push terminals. Some of our speakers come with a special “dog-ears” clamping mechanism which locks right onto the cutout you’ve made. And for the tricky task of removing speaker grills, we even include a special hook to make it a snap.
It can be enticing – but intimidating – to picture – high-end in-ceiling or in-wall surround-sound speakers in your home theater. Cmple can make it happen, with top-quality home speakers for prices that are definitely not intimidating.
